Training sessions are grouped by phase to match where you are in the visa process prior to arrival, so you’ll always get the right content at the right time.
Meet the instructors
Marlon Villaver
Marlon is a special education teacher, researcher, and department chair with over 10 years of experience. He holds a Ph.D. in Education and multiple teaching awards. Currently teaching in California, he’s recognized for his leadership and excellence in inclusive education and has coached award-winning special education students and sports teams.
Melanie M. Tanseco
Melanie is an education specialist with 20+ years of experience in California. CAPTAIN-trained and credentialed in multiple disabilities, she leads special education classrooms and mentors new teachers. She’s known for her work in the LEAP program and has received both the CTA Human Rights Award and Mary Owen Award.
Anita E. Conchina
Anita is an experienced special educator, former principal, and teacher mentor with over 20 years in the field. She holds a Doctor of Education in Educational Management and specializes in individualized instruction, IEP development, assistive tech, and team collaboration to support students with disabilities and promote inclusive learning environments.
Maria Carmina M. Habacon
Maria holds a Doctorate in Educational Management and has over 20 years in Special Education. She excels in IEP development, curriculum planning, and teacher mentoring. Known for her collaborative leadership, she drives initiatives that support student success, differentiated instruction, and inclusive practices across diverse educational settings.
Chris Apuada
Chris has worked as a Resource Specialist for over 20 years, specializing in IEPs, literacy intervention, and inclusive instruction. He’s an in-district trainer for the Wilson Reading System and a mentor to new teachers, recognized for his leadership in supporting students with learning differences in California public schools.
Ara Samira L. Sawal
Ara has 19 years of experience as a special educator and holds a Master’s in Special Education. She is known for creating inclusive, empowering classrooms and training others in behavior support and differentiated instruction. Currently teaching in California, she’s a respected advocate for equity, engagement, and student confidence.
Dr. Aileen Mercado
Aileen is the Special Education Chair in Prince George’s County, Maryland, with leadership roles in Baltimore and D.C. A University of the Philippines alumna, she’s been honored with the APAP “Unsung Hero” Award for her advocacy, and is recognized for her impactful leadership in inclusive education.
Ongoing support throughout your journey
Pathways training doesn’t stop once you arrive in the U.S. Our Teacher Lounge Mentors are all experienced international teachers themselves, who have been where you are now, and work with you throughout the first year of your program.
These mentor sessions offer guidance and support for your experience as a new U.S. teacher, setting you up for success for the remainder of your time in the U.S.
